What is Photobiomodulation?
Photobiomodulation is otherwise known as light therapy. Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a form of light therapy that uses specific wavelengths of light, typically red or near-infrared, to stimulate cellular function and promote healing, reduce inflammation, and alleviate pain. This therapy works by delivering light energy into the body's tissues, where it is absorbed by cells, particularly within the mitochondria. The absorbed light triggers biochemical changes that enhance cell function and increase energy production, leading to improved tissue repair and reduced inflammation.
In pediatric therapy, photobiomodulation is used to support various conditions such as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and mood disorders by targeting brain function and nervous system regulation. It is a non-invasive and painless treatment, making it a gentle option for children who may benefit from improved cellular health and function.
